Learning Beyond the Classroom

The Honors College offers its students several ways to learn outside of the classroom -- all of which expand upon their undergraduate educations.

Colloquia: Each semester, national known experts visit the college to lecture and talk to students about their success in business, engineering and the sciences. Students also go on several tours. They visit Washington, DC to talk with their congressmen; they visit companies such as IBM and CBS. Or they tour Ellis Island and historical and cultural sites (and restaurants) in Harlem.

Study Abroad: Students have the chance to develop an international understanding by studying for a semester in Europe or the Far East. Nothing broadens a student’s education more than international travel.

Research and Internships: Students do research in their fields with prominent NJIT professors. They also work as interns for Wall Street firms and major corporations, as well as university hospitals and government agencies.

Seminars: Honors students are offered special seminars with professors whose classes are rigorous yet intellectually stimulating. The seminars, which have small student-to- teacher ratios, cover a lot of material in a short time; that rigor prepares students for demanding careers or to enter first-rate graduate schools. Publish:  Students have a chance to write or design two annual issues of the Honors College’s Technology Observer Magazine.
