Warnings, Probation, and Dismissal

Honors students who do not meet the academic or other requirements of the Honors College may be given one of the following letters:

  • A Warning means that the student is below the standard in some academic or non-academic area. If improvement does not occur over the next one to two semesters, this may be followed by probation or dismissal.
  • Probation means that the student has fallen very far below one of the requirements, or has already received several warning letters. If the deficiency is not remedied in the next semester, the student will be dismissed. Honors College membership and all scholarships will continue after a Warning or Probation.
  • A Dismissal occur after repeated warnings or a probation which is followed by deterioration or no improvement in the student's record. Dismissal from the Honors College will occur in the specified semester, with loss of all Honors scholarships. The dismissal letter will detail the appeal procedure. All dismissals from Honors are considered temporary. If a dismissed student attains a 3.2 GPA in any semester, he/she should contact the Assistant Dean for Academics for possible reinstatement.. However, readmission may be denied if so much time has elapsed since dismissal that a reasonable number of honors courses cannot be completed before graduation.
