The Cooperative Education (Co-op) Program

NJIT's Cooperative Education Program provides students with an experiential and applications approach to education. Students gain integrated work experience related to their academic studies.

Program Features

  • An established, university wide, academically integrated program involving students and faculty advisors from every major and degree program
  • A full time Career Development Services staff dedicated to assisting students and employers in meeting their objectives
  • A centralized database of available student and employer work assignments
  • Review and referral of student resumes to prospective employers
  • Interview scheduling and coordination
  • Work experience performance management

Schedules

Co-op work schedules are available during the academic year and the summer. Co-op students from engineering and engineering technology majors work on full time schedules of up to 1 year. Students from all other majors are eligible to participate in either full or part time schedules of up to 1 year.

Co-op Work Cycles:

  • January through May
  • May through August
  • June, July, or August Through December

An on-campus recruitment schedule is also available.

Participation Requirements

Undergraduate Students

Submission of the Cooperative Education Program Application Form. Completion of the sophomore year, matriculation and a minimum grade point average of 2.2 for semester work experience and 2.8 for summer work experiences. United States work authorization eligibility. Enrollment in the co-op work experience course is required.

Graduate Students

Submission of the Cooperative Education Program Application Form. Completion of 6 credits within a matriculated degree program with a minimum grade point average of 3.0. United States work authorization eligibility. Enrollment in the co-op work experience course is required.
