The Honors College provides individual advising to each Honors Scholar. In addition, every student is assigned an advisor within the department of their major.
Honors students are assigned an advisor according to their class standing, as follows:
- All Accelerated students: Dr. Reibstein
- All other Freshman and Sophomores (0 – 56 credits): Dr. Klimovich
- Dr. Klimovich's walk-in hours for Spring 2008 are
- M 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
- T 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
- W 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
- Th 10:00 AM - 1 PM
- F By Appointment only
- Advising schedules for first-year students during registration periods will be different - see below under Freshman Advising.
- All other Juniors, Seniors, and beyond (57+ credits): Dr. Reibstein
You may also come to the Honors office (Fenster Hall, Room 420) to make an appointment.
Assignments are based on your official class standing as determined by the number of credits completed, except that you will not change advisors in the middle of an academic year. All advisor changes become effective on August 15 of each year.
Freshman advising
- STEP ONE: Freshmen registering for their second or third term: consult your advisor in your major department and decide on the courses that satisfy your major requirements, GUR, and any electives.
- STEP TWO: Select two of your courses as Honors courses. First-semester Honors Scholars will be advised in their Freshman Seminars how to select Honors courses.
- STEP THREE: An appointment schedule for registration will be distributed in First-Year Seminar classes. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Klimovich for approval of Honors courses and permission to register. Freshmen in accelerated programs are to meet with Dr. Reibstein. Appointments are to be made in the Honors Office, 420 Fenster Hall. To prepare for such a visit, you should first fill out the Honors Registration Form. Bring along your list of courses as discussed with your major academic advisor.
- Another important part of the freshman advising process is the creation of the student's Individual Education Plan as part of the Honors Freshman Seminar.
Students past the first year are encouraged to submit their course list for each upcoming term via email, to ensure that Honors course requirements are being met. Submit your course list to the appropriate advisor. Those having difficulty finding or choosing Honors courses are especially urged to consult with their Honors advisor to avoid difficulties later.
We welcome advising appointments and email at any time of the year. See above for instructions on making an appointment.
Peer Mentoring
The Passing the Torch Mentor Program provides every first-year honors student an opportunity to be assigned an upper-class honors peer mentor.
