Containment: Life After Three Mile Island is a one-hour documentary that explores the legacy of the 1979 accident at the Three Mile Island nuclear plant (TMI) from the perspective of the nearby community of Middletown, Pennsylvania. Shot on digital video, Containment weaves together interviews, verite´ scenes, and archival material to explore the accident’s long-term effects on local residents, including the rise of anti-nuclear activism, psychological consequences and the debate over health effects. |
| Wednesday, March 31 8:00 PM Montclair State University, Memorial Auditorium | Global Infectious Diseases in the Era of Bioterrorism The Margaret & Herman Sokol Science Lecture at Montclair State University Dr. Rita Colwell, Chair of Canon Life Sciences, Inc. former Director, National Science Foundation Canon US Life Sciences was founded in December 2002 to identify and develop life science solutions with potential applications in diagnostics and medical instrumentation. During Colwell's time as Director from August 1998 to February 2004, NSF's budget increased 68% and the average annual grant size grew from $90,000 to $142,000. Colwell also was responsible for increases in graduate student stipends, initiatives to support women and minorities in science and engineering, and programs to encourage science and math graduate students to participate in K-12 education.
