The Albert Dorman Honors College Retreat will be held Friday, August 28, 2009 through Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Camp Vacamas Programs For Youth in West Milford, NJ.  The purpose of the retreat is to offer incoming Honors Freshmen the opportunity to meet and bond with their peers, to create a sense of identification with the Honors College, and to inform students about the honors college expectations and opportunities.

Arrival and Departure

Arrival Time for Honors Residential Students:

All incoming honors freshmen who plan to live on campus should move into their residence hall the day before the retreat, Thursday, August 27,2009  In an effort to allow everyone enough time to move-in, we ask that you move in according to the following schedule:

• If your last name begins A-L, please arrive between 10.00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.
• If your last name begins M-Z, please arrive between 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

This date and time supersedes any other information that you may have received regarding move-in day.

Orientation and dinner will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the Campus Center Atrium.

Arrival Time for Honors Commuter Students:

All incoming honors freshmen who plan to commute to school should arrive to campus on Friday, August 28, 2009 by 9:00 a.m. Upon arrival, please come to the Campus Center Atrium.

Departure Time for All Students:

We will board buses for the campsite Friday morning, and we will return to the NJIT campus on Saturday, August 29th at approx. 12:00 p.m.  Overnight parking will be available in the NJIT Parking Deck.  For the campus map, go to: http://www.njit.edu/about/visiting/map.php.

What to Bring

Important Things

1. Comfortable clothes: jeans, shorts, t-shirts, sneakers, and sleepwear.  In case it gets cold, a light jacket or fleece is also recommended.
2. Toiletries: soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, and towel.  There will be a shower facility inside the cabins.
3. Pillow with either a sleeping bag or sheets and blankets.
4. Yourself, ready to have fun!!!

Additional Things You Should Bring

1. Food will be provided, but you may want to bring snacks like candy, chips, and bottled drinks (non-alcoholic, of course!!)  Meals for vegetarians will be provided as well.  However, we ask that you bring your own food if you have special dietary needs.
2. Bathing suit, sunglasses, suntan lotion, insect repellant, and flashlight.
3. Any medication you may have for a medical condition, such as allergies.
4. A camera to take pictures of you and your fellow Honors students.

What NOT to Bring on the Retreat

1. Any illegal substances including, but not limited to, alcoholic beverages and narcotics.
2. Cigarettes.  Smoking is not permitted on the campsite.
3. Laptop.  You may want to bring ipod, MP3 player or PSP with headphones, but note that usage will be restricted during day programs.

Reminders

Please remember that this retreat is mandatory.  If you are not able to attend because of medical or other very compelling reasons, you must receive approval from  the Dean (honors@njit.edu) prior to the retreat.

This event is intended to be FUN!!!  Remember to arrive with a positive attitude and an open mind!  We are excited about getting to know you!
