Examples of Honors Student Research at NJIT

Faculty-Sponsored Research at NJIT and Other Nearby Institutions  for Undergraduate Students

  • Biomedical Research at St. Michael's Medical Center, Newark
  • Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering: Genome microarray research, attempting to build instruments accurate enough to fit the entire human genome on a single slide. With Professor Timothy Chang, ECE Dept. and Public Health Research Institute, a neighboring research facility.
  • Mechanical Engineering: Design of a pneumatic transfer mechanism for particles. With Dr. Rosato.
  • Engineering Science , Pre-Medical, at UMDNJ: Creation of a computer model of the human heart. With Dr. Ritter.
  • Chemical Engineering: Automated docking of acetylcholinesterase with selected inhibitors; molecular modeling of the neurotransmitter, acetylcholinesterase.
  • Rutgers Mechanical Aerospace Engineering Dept.: Development of a robotic microgravity emulator. With Prof. Mauroidis.
  • Center for Communications and Signal Processing Research: Construction of an interface bus that links an oscilloscope, a spectrum analyzer, and a wave generator with a Sun workstation, with Dr. Bar-Ness.

Research Sponsored by Special Grants

  • Guidant Foundation Research in Applied Bioscience - 4 students working on projects in Summer 2006. Read more.
  • Electrical engineering work performed under NASA Space Grant -  Designed a vacuum system for a dielectric test facility. The vacuum chamber is at Princeton University's Electric Propulsion and Plasma Dynamics Lab (EPPDyL) and will be used to test electric propulsion type rocket thrusters.
  • White House Internship  - Worked in the Administrative office/travel office, assisting the accounting manager with billing the press, etc. Worked with trip coordinators and press check-in before every presidential trip at AFB. Program benefits: Weekly speakers, tours of all the sites in Washington, DC.
