The Mayor’s Scholarship was initiated in collaboration with the Office of Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka and the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). The scholarship was established to support students who live in Newark and meet the eligibility requirements for admission to the Albert Dorman Honors College at NJIT.
Recipients of the Mayor’s scholarship will receive a four-year housing scholarship, covering the full cost of on-campus room expenses, in addition to their Honors merit award. Up to three incoming first-year students will be selected based on both their academic and service accomplishments. Preference will be given to applicants who attend Newark public schools and demonstrate financial need as determined by federal guidelines.
For Mayor’s Scholars to maintain eligibility, they must meet the Honors requirements outlined in their financial aid award notice and take part in Honors City Leadership and Engagement Program. Information about the program may be found here, https://honors.njit.edu/leadership.
To apply for the Mayor’s Scholarship, you must first apply to NJIT and the Albert Dorman Honors College (through the CommonApp - the deadline is February 1).
