Dorman Honors College Freshman Seminar

Freshman Seminar is a requirement for graduation for all first-time college freshmen at NJIT. The Dorman Honors College has a specifically designed seminar for Honors freshmen. During the Honors freshman seminar course, students will develop an academic portfolio which will include personal reflections of their first semester, the development of an individual education plan (IEP) and the creation of a resume. Discussions will focus on the responsibilities of being a successful college student, the academic honor code and ethics, introduction to college research, and the support network within the university. Leadership skills and group presentations will be emphasized. The course will be facilitated by an instructor and a teaching assistant who is an upper class Honors College student.

Community Service Opportunities (in Newark and On campus)

Note: The deadline for submitting community service in Moodle for Fall 2017 is December 22, 2017.

All freshmen are required to attend three university presentations which will discuss Academic Integrity, Title IX (Sexual Harassment), and center for counseling (C-CAPS). Specific dates and times for attendance will be scheduled according to your freshmen seminar section.

Below students will find links throughout the syllabus to several articles, activities and web sites to be used during the class sessions.

The individual freshman seminar instructors will discuss any changes in the schedule of topics and assignments due as presented.

INTRODUCTION:

 Goal of Freshman Seminar is to help students to be successful in academic courses and connect with university resources/ opportunities.
