The program was established in 2019 and supports students who live in Newark and meet the eligibility requirements for admission to the Albert Dorman Honors College (ADHC) at NJIT.
Three incoming, first-year students from Newark are selected as scholars based on their academic and service accomplishments, demonstrated financial need as determined by federal guidelines, as well as recommendations from the superintendent. For Mayor’s Honors Scholars to maintain eligibility, they must meet the Honors requirements outlined in their financial aid award notice and take part in an Honors City Leadership and Engagement Program.”
Mayor’s Honors Scholars receive a four-year housing scholarship, covering the full cost of on-campus room expenses, in addition to their Honors merit award.
The Albert Dorman Honors College encourages the Mayor’s Scholars to identify and articulate their interests, be part of building sustainable community, service and leadership, and to live meaningful and rewarding lives. The Newark Mayor’s Scholars Program seeks to foster the future leaders of Newark and the nation.
