What happens when emerging technologies are used to explore questions beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries? Scholars in the Interdisciplinary Digital Studies Honors Track explore the intersection of technology, humanities, social sciences, and other disciplines through innovative coursework and hands-on research experiences. By integrating technologies with an interdisciplinary approach, scholars develop the skills to investigate complex questions, connect diverse fields of knowledge, and apply their technical expertise in new and creative ways.
Through research and project-based learning, scholars will engage with technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), extended reality (XR), geographic information systems (GIS), and digital modeling to explore historical, cultural, scientific, and societal questions. Working alongside faculty across NJIT’s colleges, scholars gain experience applying digital tools and methodologies to research that connects traditional disciplinary boundaries. The track culminates in an interdisciplinary project that creatively connects scholars’ general education coursework with their technical training, demonstrating how emerging technologies can expand opportunities for research, discovery, and innovation.
Educational Outcomes
- Scholars will gain an understanding of how emerging digital technologies can be applied across disciplines to investigate historical, cultural, scientific, and societal questions.
- Scholars will develop interdisciplinary research skills through the application of digital tools, innovative methodologies, and collaborative problem-solving.
- Scholars will know how to integrate knowledge from their academic disciplines and general education coursework to design and complete an interdisciplinary research or creative project using digital technologies.
